ADVOCACY UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 19, 2008

Dear Child Care Colleagues:

A 2008 Federal Election Message

On October 14 Canadians go to the polls. Standing and working together, we are determined to make child care a significant issue during this federal election – an election that, like no other, may determine in very fundamental ways the kind of Canada that is our future.

Will we elect a government that values programs for children, women and families?  Will we elect a government that shows compassion for our citizens, that supports every Canadian, even those with smaller voices?  Will we elect a government that is committed to build the child care system that we know Canadians want?

At the heart of this election are the values we hold dear. That’s why it’s vital for all of us, each ordinary Canadian, to speak up and let our voices be heard.  To support our work, Code Blue for Child Care has written an open letter to the federal leaders and separated fact from fiction on the Harper government’s child care record. Log on to the Code Blue for Child Care web site  regularly for election tools, information, links and ideas.  We must use every blog, every email, every Facebook page, every telephone conversation, every radio program, every TV opportunity and every community paper to tell our stories.

Let Canada know how the policies of the Conservative Party have failed.  Let people know about long wait lists, fees so expensive that ordinary Canadians cannot afford them and spaces that just aren’t there.  Let everyone YOU know hear our message - children are still waiting, parents are still waiting, Canada STILL needs child care.
