ADVOCACY UPDATE - OCTOBER 1, 2008

Dear Child Care Colleagues:

Election day is just two weeks away, and here are some actions you can take and share:

  1. Stand up and speak out – investing in a publicly funded child care system is one of the best economic decisions a government can make.  Whether the economy is strong, weak, or uncertain as it is right now, investing in good child care is good economics.  The evidence is clear and summarized in “A strong economy needs good child care: Canada can’t work without it.”

  2. Get virtual - The Code Blue web site now includes links to on-line election related sites, blogs and Facebook groups.  Make a commitment to ‘get virtual’ about child care at least once a week between now and October 14.  Tell your child care story and spread the word that
    • A taxable allowance of $100 a month has NOT provided parents with more choice.
    • Other countries do it and so can we.
    • Canada STILL needs child care.

  3. Decorate - Put up the Code Blue window sign, and register to vote.

This Federal Election, child care is within reach.  The NDP, Liberal and Green parties are promising they will build a universal child care system.  The Conservatives are not.  It’s time to vote for the party you trust most to deliver a universal, community-based child care system.
