ADVOCACY UPDATE - JANUARY 18, 2008

Dear Friends of Child Care:

2008 has arrived and with it comes a period of reflection, revision, and recommitment.

We reflect on 2007 as a year of great irony: while the evidence both at home and abroad supporting publicly-funded, quality child care continued to grow, our federal government cut its support for child care services in provinces and territories by 37% (from $950 million in 2006/07 to $600 million in 2007/08).

Our work continues!  So, on behalf of the board of the Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada (CCAAC), I invite you to choose to recommit along side us to the goal of high-quality, accessible affordable child care services in Canada.  You can do this by renewing your CCAAC membership for the coming year if you have not already had the chance to do so, or by making a donation.   Supporting the CCAAC has never been easier – we can now accept donations online through fast and secure PayPal.

The Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada works to provide public education, to monitor child care public policy and to promote the right of all children and families to access high-quality, affordable child care services in Canada.  To support this work, the CCAAC has a proven history of providing high-quality, relevant and timely child care policy and funding analyses.  2007 was no exception; learn about public reporting on federal transfers to provinces and territories for child care services in our Making the Connections report and find out how we can have The Best of All Worlds when it comes to child care services in Canada.  Order or download these reports today!  We will gladly send hard copies to our members – just email info@ccaac.ca or call our toll free number 1-877-261-1342 with your contact information and preferred official language.

A preview of 2008 shows that, while it may be a challenging year ahead of us, with your help there will be lots of things great things to come – we have in our plans an update on accountability for child care funding, a brief highlighting the rationale for community-owned and operated services, a child care checklist for our elected representatives, and much more.

By choosing to be a member of the CCAAC you are actively choosing to support the right of every Canadian family and child who needs or wants it to have access to affordable, accessible, high-quality child care.  You also receive the following member benefits:
